Kristen Fermaglich will present her groundbreaking history of the practice of Jewish name changing in the 20th century, A Rosenberg by Any Other Name: A History of Jewish Name Changing in America, showcasing just how much is in a name. She won the American Jewish Historical Society’s 2019 Saul Viener Book Prize, and has been teaching history and Jewish Studies at Michigan State University since 2001. She is particularly interested in secular Jews as both members of and outsiders to the Jewish community. She is also interested in the ways that gender, race, class, and family intersect with ethnic identity. The author’s book will be available for purchasing and she will be available for signing
